This past January was the birthday of one of my  girlfriends, Marta, from Connecticut, (If you are not one of my friends, quick crash course in Krogdahl moving history: Jamie and I lived in Sydney for 2 years, CT for 3, Shanghai - Yes, the China Shanghai- for 15 months - could not handle more :-) - , then back to Australia, Melbourne this time for 3.5 years and now back to the States for the time being. Yes, we have moved more than the gypsies with the caravans and the road has taken us to many wonderful places and we have made great friends everywhere). We have been very blessed indeed.

Anyway, back to my friend in CT. I had no idea what to get her for her birthday and one day when I was browsing the Stampin' Up Catalogue came past these wonderful perennial birthday calendars. And I thought, what a GREAT idea. I think this is a great idea as a present as it is something more personal.

The calendar comes completely blank, and I decorated each and every page with a different theme matching the months of the year - well hers was matching the us calendar, july with 4th of july,  november with thanksgiving and January with snowflakes. 

So, less talk more pictures, here is the completed result.

FRONT of the calendar, that was of course nicely wrapped and more ribbon attached :-) 

For February I used a Stampin up Sale-a-Bration set called Sprinkled expressions. And I embossed the heart in red. It is from a retired Stampin Up stamp set called Always. You will see this one featured again and again, there is also a fabulous bird that I really love. Which is actually on the next page :-)

For march I used The Always set again for the bird this time, and Precious Butterflies.

For April I seed the tree, bird and sentiment from Best of Everything set, and added the flowers from Itty Bitty Bits.

Not sure if you can tell, but the little flowers on the trees have been stamped individually and punched and then attached with 3D foam for the pop up effect :-)

May has a lovely butterfly theme that uses a wheel

For June I used a new stamp set called Mixed Bunch and the Printed Petals one

For July I used the star stamp from the Sprinkled Expressions set (same one I used for february with the heart) and Also heat embossed the white star. Not so visible in the picture.

This set is called Little Friends and it's one of those that I saw and I HAD TO HAVE, I thought the kids were just adorable. And the little puppy and red wagon are too cute to resist. Was not sure what to use for the summer, as I did not have a summery beachy stamp set, but then thought the kids were just perfect.

September saw a wood-themed page, with the stamp sets Fox and friends and Funky Four. Also could not help it, I had to add the owl, with the owl builder punch. Isn't she adorable??? The googly eyes are just irresistible! 

October is a good month for leaves and fruit, but also added the lovely pink flower for some contrast. This set is called Faith in Nature and you can get it a FREE from Stampin up with an order.

November is Thanksgiving month, so autumn coloured wreathes, some pumpkin pies, a thank you 3D add on and some lovely Designer Series Paper was all I needed for this page.

For December I used probably one of my favourite sets called Snow Swirled (some of you would have seen it previously on the Christmas cards I sent out). I love the Christmas tree in this set, the snowflakes are also adorable, but what I really like is that is has a Christian sentiment to go with it. And there aren't many that do ( I do own all the ones with a Christian sentiment, because I believe that is the reason we celebrate Christmas. We celebrate Christmas because Christ came on this Earth to redeem us, to save us from sin and give us the opportunity to have eternal life. I don't like the whole Happy Holidays or Season's Greetings business that takes Christ out of Christmas....It is called CHRISTmas for a reason)

I had to heat emboss all the elements on this page and it turned out stunning!!! Please excuse the wonky sentiment at the bottom, it was past midnight :-)

If you want one of these, I can either make them for you (just email me at downunderserendipity@gmail.com), the cost is $35 (which includes the cost of the calendar and all materials used). It can look the same or it can be customized with whatever themes you choose. For those back in Australia January would obviously NOT be snowflakes :-)))

Alternatively I also do classes and you can make your own calendar, cost is $15 per class (usually 2 hrs) plus the cost of the calendar.

As promised on FB, got a chance and photographed some of the latest designs I have been working on. So here they are, hope you like them :-)

I really like this particular way to use the Top Note die, and love the 2 layers of it. The vase is made using an oval punch, a circle to create the top and scissors to cut the bottom straight.

 I tend to make a few colours and designs when I create and I really like the rich razzleberry colour! I Especially like the Ribbon and the metal buckle, but unfortunately they are both retired from Stampin' Up, so I am just using my stash for these ones

 Liked the monocromatic look, especially with the old navy cardstock. It goes well with the very vanilla. For this one I used some organza with the brass buckle, and it is my favourrite by far!

Old olive anyone? Well, enough of the brass buckles, here is some scruffy yarn I had in my ribbon stash. Oh, and mixed it up a little, moved from the little rhinestones to the pearls.

TWO Little LOVEBIRDS....Probably my favourite punch from Stampin Up is the bird builder. For the birds I just stamped a lovely flower pattern stamp onto very vanilla cardstock and then punched the bird. Used Chocolate chip for the body and tempting turquoise for the wings. Add some lovely Designer Series Paper (DSP) to the background, layer some chocolate paper and more DSP, this time on blue to match the birds and add some Chantilly Ribbon, and there you have it, a lovely easy card. I was not sure what I would use it for, so the sentiment is Just for you, so it could be used for any occasion really. The sentiment stamp is from a set called Tagtastic also by Stampin' Up (probably should not mention seeing as all my stamps are from them).

Same idea on sage background this time, and with a hardware frame from the hodge podge collection.

This is the card I made for the swap at the monthly get together with my stamping girlfriends. The flowers were made using a technique called paper quilling. Just add some DSP, a lovely scalloped edge, pearls, ribbon and buttons and you have a lovely card. And guess what? I did not use ANY stamps on this one.

 It's a lot of fun and the end result looks amazing! But I would not want to have to make 30 of these!!! 10 were enough for me.

I have also used my morning in a very productive way, I have finished my order for the 30 birthday invitations!!!! And here is the proof

Now I just have to make the matching thank you cards, stamp the back and put the inside piece with all the party details and it will be my first completed order. Now I just have to start working on the other pending ones....

I have been wanting to do this for so long now, it is quite ridiculous...I had quite a few friends that were more than present in the blog world and thought maybe I should start one too. 

But then the question...what to write about? I mean seriously, who besides my mum would be interested what classes Alina attends and how many play dates my kids have been (or not been) to this week? I do appreciate the value of the staying at home mum, but seriously it is not glamorous enough to fill a blog....Actually, it is big enough to fill a blog, but definitely not glamorous. And probably not entertaining in the slightest...

So, when I became a Stampin Up demonstrator last fall  www.stampinup.com I rediscovered my love of crafting.

And kind of out of the blue - hence the serendipity bit :-) - came the idea for a blog. I thought surely cards are a lot more interesting and would attract more attention than just blogging about stuff...Then I thought, seeing as I make so many cards (it is very addictive!) why not try and market them and sell some. So there you have it the result, blog/business website.


I then started acquiring copious amounts of stamps, ink pads, ribbons, buttons, brads and paper...let's not forget the paper! ( That reminds me I just got a new box of paper! How exciting! Slightly more justifiable now that I have paid orders.YAY!!! I know I am excited, and so will my bank account, although not for a while. I had my best friend say "you must have spent a couple hundred dollars on your things so far"....I just laughed and not responded. Just don't ask Jamie, he might turn blue in the face).

     Yes, I think I might have enough ribbons for now, but only till June when the new                  Stampin' Up Catalog comes out.                                                                   

                  

                      Just got the extensions for the ink pad holder so I can accommodate new colours :-)

                    And no, this is not all my collection, have a few more stashed away!

Oh, and lets not leave the punches out...just a couple of drawers, but they do come in very handy! I wish they made one for the invite I am working on now, then I would not have to cut 90 of the balloons and 90 of the baskets.....silly enough I wanted them to be 3D, not just stamped on cardstock. I do love the look though, and so did my client :-)

And yes, had my first order from family (along with the freebie ones of course :-) ), but the order I am working on now from my beautician, I know she did not feel obliged in any way, she just liked them :-).

She initially wanted a carnival theme, which was very puzzling, seeing as I had no stamps with that theme....so I send all my lovely stamping friends an email asking for some help. And my very talented friend Michelle at www.michvanstamps.blogspot.com came to the rescue with some stamped images of a carnival theme she never got to use. All I had to do was come up with a design, colour, crop, punch and glue, and some ribbon for pizzaz, and the result was....voila! GREAT I thought (excuse my boasting)

But then creativity strikes and I thought, why not take another one and see which one she likes better.... So this little beauty got created. I do have to add I did not think at the possibility of having to cut 90 balloons and 90 baskets and numerous clouds that I decided to do as 3D....well, lesson learnt! (how I wish  there was a punch for this lovely set by Stampin up called Up Up and Away!

That probably would have to do it for tonight, some more light reading in the next few days, I have some invitations to finish seeing as my pumpkin pie cardstock and buttons arrived and I can continue with my order. Another note to self: Let future clients know the background designer paper might be slightly different, same colour theme and all, but maybe spots instead of lines and you won't have to rummage through your friends paper stash! And make sure you also tell them the buttons WILL be different colour combinations, keeping with the themes, and that way it won't cost $12 for buttons! Oh, the joys of learning to price your product!

 This card is made with a retired Stampin Up set called Always, and it has to be one of my favourites, the heart is just adorable, and it also comes with a gorgeous bird stamp!!!! Pictured below <3

 Love the new stamp set Mixed bunch, but what I love the most is that it comes with a coordinating punch!! Can you imagine snipping away at all the flowers? Especially when you have about 8 cards to do for a swap? And this is when you just adore your punches!

 This was the card Jamie chose from my stash for Valentine's day...it would have been my choice too :-)

LOVE LOVE LOVE the round card! I have a round card phase at the moment, and this is my first attempt! It was meant to be  round scallop, but my scallop die had not come yet, so I had to learn to use my circle scissors...Let's just say it was lucky I had a few black sheets to spare....but not to worry, they shall not be wasted, they go in the too small to use, great for punches pile :-)  (see the bird's wing, the brand and the small circle?? Yeap, from that pile)

Oh, and have you noticed the ribbon? Quite classy. In love with this one at the moment, got 3 out of the 4 colours available...
